Hospitales Universitarios San Roque, in its commitment to innovation, international cooperation and improving access to global health, has launched a telemedicine pilot project in collaboration with Clinique du Diabète et des Maladies de la Thyroïde SARL , in Nouakchott (Mauritania), and the telemedicine teams of Diagnóstica Europa.
This initiative stems from several years of collaborative work, institutional visits to Mauritania, and the signing of an international cooperation agreement. A significant milestone was the successful completion of the first telemedicine consultation using specially adapted equipment, ushering in a new era in access to specialized medical care in the region.
The project, currently in a three-month pilot phase, involves providing remote consultations by specialists from San Roque University Hospitals in various clinical areas. The goal is to expedite diagnoses, optimize treatments, and ensure more effective continuity of care for Mauritanian patients.
Yurena Rivero , Head of International Strategy at San Roque University Hospitals , stated that “this alliance represents a firm step towards sustainable, supportive healthcare cooperation based on knowledge transfer between professionals. It is a tangible example of how technology and humanitarian commitment can contribute to improving global health . ”
This initial experience will allow us to evaluate the technical and healthcare viability of the model, with the goal of consolidating it as a permanent channel for specialized remote medical care and laying the groundwork for future lines of international collaboration in training, professional exchanges, and joint research projects.
With this initiative, San Roque University Hospitals reaffirms its position as a leading healthcare institution not only in the Canary Islands but also in the development of collaborative and innovative healthcare models internationally.
