The Civil Guard charges him with five counts of robbery with violence using the mataleón technique.
He was arrested by the Local Police when he had carried out one of his robberies
The effective cooperation between the Civil Guard and the Vecindario Local Police has culminated in the arrest and subsequent imprisonment of the alleged perpetrator of a series of five robberies in the municipality, using the dangerous "mataleón" technique. The meticulous investigation and swift police action were crucial in identifying an elusive criminal who also had a wanted and arrest warrant from Criminal Court No. 6 of Las Palmas.
The complexity of the investigation lay in the difficulty of identifying the offender, as he acted unexpectedly, approaching his victims from behind and using a strangulation technique that left them unconscious. He also used several items of clothing to exchange clothes after committing the crime.
The Civil Guard's investigation in Vecindario followed the trail of several robberies carried out using the same modus operandi. On June 26, at 04:40 a.m., a report of a robbery with violence and intimidation was received. According to the victim's testimony, around 01:30 a.m., while walking along Avenida de Canarias, she was surprised by an individual who, after a brief interaction, grabbed her by the neck using the "mataleón" technique until she lost consciousness. The assailant stole the victim's watch and cell phone, causing her to suffer injuries that required medical attention.
The swift reaction of a relative of the victim was decisive. After learning what had happened, he went out in search of the attacker, managing to locate him and recover the stolen cell phone. Although the assailant managed to flee briefly, he was intercepted and arrested shortly after by the Vecindario Local Police, who had already been alerted and were in the vicinity.
During the arrest, officers found the stolen watch and a second watch among his belongings, key evidence that led to his arrest for robbery with violence and intimidation. The detainee lacked identification, which hampered his initial identification. The Vecindario Civil Guard investigation department took over the case after the detainee and the seized items were handed over to the local police. The Civil Guard was already investigating similar incidents and suspected it was the same person.
After analyzing multiple statements, video surveillance images (both private and from the Local Police), photographic identification, and data from Civil Guard bases, sufficient evidence was obtained to establish the identity of the alleged perpetrator. It was then discovered that this individual had a warrant for his arrest and imprisonment issued by Criminal Court No. 6 of Las Palmas. The Civil Guard has initiated proceedings for a continuing offense of robbery with violence and intimidation (five offenses) and assault. The suspect was handed over to the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Duty Court along with the detainee, and his imprisonment was ordered.
This success underscores the importance of inter-institutional coordination between the Civil Guard and the Local Police to ensure citizen safety and bring those responsible for such violent crimes to justice.
