Neighbors with homes of more than 90 m2 will see the fee increased by 81%.
Restaurants, supermarkets, cafes, pubs, hotels, even empty premises, will experience increases of 238% in some cases
The municipal auditor warned 6 years ago that the solid waste collection service was oversized.
In the ordinary plenary session held in the Town Hall of Mogán today, Monday, October 9, the government chaired by Onalia Bueno approved the increase in rates for the municipal solid waste collection service, which means confirming the “tax” and the increase in tax pressure for all the residents and businessmen of the municipality.
According to the data in the file, residents with homes of more than 90 square meters will pay 81% more, which means that they will pay €108, compared to the €60 they were paying. But the thing doesn't stop there, this increase is the same for all residents, whether they live in a coastal area or in an inland area, which is deeply unfair, since the amount of waste generated by residents of the area is not the same. The coastline is much more numerous and, therefore, more touristy than those who live in areas such as Veneguera or Barranquillo Andrés.
Hotels will pay €243,62% more per room, cafes will see their tax obligations increased by 166%, even cultural venues and civic centers will pay 71,19% more, punishing the deteriorated cultural activity. in the municipality for the disastrous management carried out in this matter.
This file is not new for Nueva Canarias, since six years ago it warned all the residents of Mogán of the enormous tax increase that was coming. Thus, from the nationalist formation, some tables were published in which residents and businessmen of the municipality could verify the monetary increase that they were going to have to assume to face a new waste collection service.

This decision, as expressed by the councilor of NC-BC, Juan Manuel Gabella, in the corresponding information commission, will mean an increase in the tax pressure in Mogán, and he recalled that the Ministry of Finance set the tax pressure in Mogán at about €1.400, exceeding the average for the entire Canary Islands by €229. To this data we must now add the increase in the rate for garbage collection, which will mean that a 90 m2 home will have to pay 37% more, and that a 91m2 home will see the rate increased by 81%. going from €60 to €108. But in addition, the nationalist councilor requested that, given the economic context of the increase in the shopping basket, the increase in fuel, and the rise in mortgage payments, this excessive amount not be applied increase in the rate for the collection of solid waste, as a support mechanism for those who are having the worst time.
From NC, it was insisted that this increase will be a burden on the economic development of Mogán, weakening employment growth and reducing the municipality's competitiveness.
However, as we have already explained, this increase not only affects families but also restaurants, supermarkets, cafes, pubs, hotels, even empty premises, experiencing increases of 238% in some cases.
This decision by the Onalia Bueno government is due to the need to finance a million-dollar contract that introduces a new model, which means making the service 80% more expensive, going from 17 million to almost 51 million euros. A project, which in the opinion of NC is oversized, and which means that the families and businessmen of Mogán have to pay twice, once through taxes and another through municipal deficit, since the auditor reported that despite the increase in the service would continue to incur a clear deficit.
For NC, this “Tazaso” by Onalia Bueno shows once again the distance that separates the mayor from the problems of neighbors and businessmen, since this type of decision will only produce a loss of competitiveness in the municipality and a clear increase of unemployment levels and also contrasts with the salary increase of more than €11.000 for the mayor and more than 2,000 euros for the councilors.
The mayor and her councilors raise their salaries, while increasing the tax pressure on the residents of Mogán who are having the worst time, it is immorality and an act of “caradurism,” stated the nationalist councilor.
