The extraordinary Plenary Session, held in the Session Hall of the Town Hall, began at 10:00 a.m. with the formation of the 'Age Table', made up of the oldest and youngest councilors elected in the last elections. Subsequently, the rest of the councilors were accredited by presenting the credential issued by the Zone Electoral Board and the oath or promise of their position.
The Municipal Corporation of Mogán has been constituted with 21 councilors, four more than in 2019 due to the increase in the census population. Together for Mogán, was the party with the most votes on May 28 in the municipality, thus once again granting the mayoralty to Onalia Bueno. The councilors are Mencey Navarro, Ernesto Hernández, Tania Alonso, Luis Miguel Becerra, Consuelo Díaz, Victor Gutiérrez, Willy García, Mencey Santana, Emily Quintana, Rayco Guerra, Josué Hernández, Juana Teresa Vega, Minerva Oliva, Grimanesa Artiles, Yaiza Llovell and Neftali Sabina. The opposition is made up of PSOE, represented by Artemi Artiles and Dolores Mondéjar, and Nuevas Canarias in Mogán, with Javier Romero and Juan Manuel Gabella.
Bueno raised his baton again before the people gathered in the room, all of them relatives of the recently proclaimed councilors. After several minutes of applause, he addressed them as well as the rest of the residents who were following the institutional event live from home on Radio Televisión Mogán and the City Council's Facebook profile, as well as from Plaza Sarmiento y Coto where it was placed. a giant screen and the El Mocán Cultural Center, both locations attached to the City Hall.
The mayor thanked everyone who once again placed their trust in her and the team that accompanies her. “Thank you for making me the mayor with the most votes in Gran Canaria with 71,65% of the votes and the fourth most votes in the entire Canary Islands,” she said, pointing out that the 5.188 votes registered “will allow us to continue working tirelessly, as we have always done, so that Mogán does not stop at the cruising pace it has achieved in terms of development and progress.”
The councilor wanted to highlight the exponential change experienced by Mogán in the last eight years. “Despite the potential, we were the municipality that occupied the last car of the train and today we can boast of being the locomotive of the island. Now we are the municipality that many others take as an example,” she pointed out. A scenario that has ensured that she is “full of pride” and “gives her the strength to continue giving everything for Mogán, no matter how much it may weigh on a few.”
In the same way, he highlighted the harmony and respect between the Government group and “the majority of the opposition forces, those who have responded to those neighbors who voted for them,” he noted, making direct reference to the already expired legislature. to Artiles, spokesperson for the PSOE, and to Maicol Santana, spokesperson for the PP, a party that has not obtained representation in the municipality for the next four years.
“Others,” he stated, “instead of concentrating on working and proposing alternatives for the progress of the people, have shown that they do not care about Mogán and have preferred to make the Courts their own plenary session to obtain political benefits.”
In that sense, Bueno stated that his wish for the new political cycle is that harmony and respect also prevail. And he warned that if not, his pulse will not tremble to defend Mogán's interests. "I am not going to allow citizens to suffer again when they relate their municipality with negative terms that have nothing to do with reality."
The mayor said of Mogán that it is a municipality “of record and excellence” in issues such as sports, gastronomy, the primary sector and tourism, and that for this to continue and further promote its progress and development, it has a plan of work that is already underway. She thus made reference to the first Municipal Housing Plan and her commitment and defense for the ring road of the town, as well as the constant push from her position "to speed up the works of the tunnel that will finally restore the connection between Taurito and Playa de Mogán." However, she assured that the priority “continues to be supporting our neighbors with the services and aid” that the City Council provides from multiple areas.
Bueno concluded by congratulating the councilors who took office, specifically requesting from those who are part of the local government “work, effort, proactivity, active listening to our people and above all lots of shoes and comfortable clothes to walk the street.” Likewise, he addressed a few words of gratitude to his family for their constant support. “Thank you for the trust, patience and, above all, for the love. It is mutual,” he declared.
