Pain in the south of Gran Canaria due to the departure of doctor Felipe Cáceres

The parish of San Fernando de Maspalomas hosted the funeral mass this Wednesday for the death at the age of 77 of one of the greats of the south of the island: the doctor Felipe Cáceres Arvelo. He was one of the first defenders of medicine in the south of the island, where he lived in Playa del Inglés. He was born in Telde and had to work as an exemplary neighbor and doctor in the south of Gran Canaria with a clogged medicine and few technical means. He was a collaborator at the Hospital San Roque Maspalomas medical center.

Cáceres Arvelo was this Wednesday at the funeral remembered by health personnel and some relatives of patients who were treated as well as children who are now fathers and mothers. Once he moved from Granada, where he studied as a doctor from Telde, with his wife, Rosa Jiménez Gordillo, he opened one of the first medical consultations in the south of Gran Canaria.

He always said that he liked being a doctor "because it is the instrument to cure and mitigate the pain of those who suffer" and he defended human contact with patients "because to understand the diseases of the body, you have to get closer to the patient's soul." He was founder of the Felipe Cáceres Policlínica more than 45 years ago and of the Club Maspalomas Bungalows, now Club Maspalomas Suites & Spa.
