Social Housing and Infrastructure of the Canary Islands (Visocan) is facing the year with a strategic restructuring of its operations, with the Gran Canaria municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana playing a key investment role. The public company, which reports to the Canary Islands Autonomous Community, secured an initial advance payment of €500.000 from the southern municipality as part of a broader agreement with a projected budget of €35 million for the construction of a new public housing complex in the area. This institutional collaboration agreement officially extends until 2028, the deadline set for the completion of the planned social housing units in the municipality.
The first agreement involves increasing the municipal contribution to the agreement between the City Council and VISOCAN to promote and build subsidized housing in San Bartolomé de Tirajana by €6,5 million. This new funding, authorized through budget amendment 18/2026, is added to the initial €35 million allocated to the program. The total planned investment thus reaches €41,5 million.
The agreement aims to increase the municipality's public housing stock and facilitate access to affordable housing. The new addendum will also allow for the continued planning of various projects, including tasks related to municipal land parcels, appraisals, project drafting, technical supervision, and urban planning and development processes.
Among the main new features of Addendum II is the acquisition of a building located on Juan de la Cosa Street in Castillo del Romeral, comprising 26 apartments, as well as parking spaces and storage units. The amount set for the transaction is €4.709.428,15, a sum lower than the maximum sale price of €4.732.606,31 calculated by the municipal technical office.
The aim is to incorporate these properties into the public housing program for subsequent allocation within the joint projects undertaken by the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council and VISOCAN. This acquisition is part of a municipal strategy that seeks to increase the availability of affordable housing and simultaneously advance new developments and preparatory work related to public residential development.
