Two million for the Playa de Mogán wastewater treatment plant to increase the production of reclaimed water

The Canary Islands Government Council authorized a budget amendment on Monday to allocate two million euros directly to modernize and expand the wastewater treatment system on the coast of the municipality of Mogán . Processed at the proposal of the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion, and Water , the budget will finance the expansion of the wastewater treatment plant located in Playa de Mogán , and will be included in the allocations planned by the Directorate General of Water for the 2026 fiscal year.

The investment aims to mitigate the polluting load of wastewater discharges and maximize water use by generating resources suitable for agricultural irrigation and the maintenance of municipal green spaces. The councilor for the area, Manuel Miranda , emphasized the high level of institutional coordination achieved with the Mogán City Council and the Island Water Council to implement this strategic project in the southwestern region of Gran Canaria.

On a technical level, the first phase of the works will allow for a production capacity of 750 cubic meters of reclaimed water per day, with the facilities designed to double their output to 1.500 cubic meters per day in subsequent phases. This infrastructure complements the sanitation plans jointly implemented by the municipal council and the island council to safeguard environmental sustainability and the water supply of the coastal strip.
