Alejandro Marichal: “We continue to improve the offerings of Maspalomas Costa Canaria: better spaces, better services and more experiences that add value for visitors and benefit both the economy and our residents.”
Yilenia Vega: “Tourists, residents, and visitors share this destination, and this is an opportunity for us to meet and enjoy Maspalomas Costa Canaria together.”
The Tourism Department of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council is expanding this year's celebration of World Tourism Day with a program that will take place over two weekends and in two of the main locations of Maspalomas Costa Canaria.
The main new feature will be the addition of an initial event, from September 25th to 27th, on the Meloneras Promenade and around the Maspalomas Lighthouse , designed especially for families, both residents and tourists. The celebration will continue on October 2nd and 3rd at Annex II of Playa del Inglés, with the fourth edition of Maspalomas Tourifest , which will offer a more festive atmosphere and feature live music as one of its main attractions.
The First Deputy Mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Alejandro Marichal, emphasizes that this expansion “is part of our commitment to continue improving the experience offered by Maspalomas Costa Canaria. A well-established tourist destination like ours should not measure its success solely by the number of visitors it receives, but by the quality of its offerings, the value generated by tourism, and our ability to ensure that those who visit us enjoy the destination more and want to return.”
Marichal emphasizes that “the challenge is not to grow indefinitely in quantity, but to grow in quality. We have to offer better spaces, better services, and more experiences capable of adding value to the visitor and, at the same time, benefiting the economy and society of the municipality.”
Three days of activities in Meloneras
The program will begin on Friday, September 25th , with a market area showcasing Canarian products, crafts, and cuisine. It will also feature background music, food trucks, and a relaxation zone between 16:00 PM and 21:00 PM . The day will conclude with a film screening with English subtitles, starting at 20:00 PM, with the Maspalomas Lighthouse as a backdrop.
On Saturday the 26th, the market will be open from 09:00 a.m. to 21:00 p.m. , with background music throughout the day, a food truck from 12:00 p.m. to 21:00 p.m., and children's and family activities between 12:00 p.m. and 18:00 p.m.
On Sunday the 27th, World Tourism Day, the market area will be open from 09:00 a.m. to 20:00 p.m.; there will be live music from 12:00 p.m. to 18:00 p.m. and food trucks from 12:00 p.m. to 20:00 p.m. Family activities will take place between 12:00 p.m. and 19:00 p.m. and will include laser tag, a ninja zone, a children's area, and electric bicycles. During this weekend, a tourist passport will also be launched, which the public can complete as they participate and visit the different stands, and which will give them a chance to win a prize draw.
The Councillor for Tourism, Yilenia Vega, explains that “we wanted World Tourism Day to have an even greater presence this year and not be concentrated in a single celebration. That's why we've added a first weekend designed for families to enjoy one of our main tourist attractions, and we're keeping Tourifest as the main musical and festive event of this commemoration.”
Vega points out that the program also aims to "involve those who live in the municipality in a celebration that is especially important for San Bartolomé de Tirajana. Tourism, residents, and visitors share the destination, and this is also an opportunity for us to meet and enjoy Maspalomas Costa Canaria together."
Fourth edition of Maspalomas Tourifest
The second weekend will see the Maspalomas Tourifest, now in its fourth edition after three years in which the event has become a fixture on the World Tourism Day program. Friday On October 2nd, from 18:00 PM to 02:00 AM, DJ Toni Bob, Salvapantalla, DJ Ulises, Daniel Calero, Calle Boogaloo and DJ Ardy will perform.
On Saturday, October 3rd, from 14:00 PM to 02:00 AM , there will be workshops and activities, and the public will enjoy performances by DJ Ruyman Melian, La Suerte de Mi Vida (a tribute to El Canto del Loco), El Vega Life, a drone show, Yet Garbey, fireworks, and DJ Iván Monagas. The event will also include family workshops, a food area, and a market area.
“With these two events, we are expanding leisure options and offering two complementary ways to celebrate tourism: one more family-oriented and linked to strolling, and another characterized by music, socializing, and a festive atmosphere by the sea,” concludes Yilenia Vega.
