Father and son settle into a Maspalomas bungalow for free to scam tourists

YURENA VEGA - M24H Friday, September 18, 2026

The prosecution has requested a six-and-a-half-year prison sentence for EAS and a one-year sentence for his son, EAP, accused of illegally occupying an apartment in a Maspalomas resort and looting several bungalows using a master key. The indictment in the abbreviated proceedings handled by the Court of Instruction Number 1 of San Bartolomé de Tirajana requests a trial before the Provincial Court of Las Palmas for the crimes of continuous burglary, fraud, and illegal occupation of property.

According to the Public Prosecutor's report, the defendants moved into a bungalow on Touroperador Neckerman Avenue without authorization on June 6, 2025. To access the property and move around the premises, they used a master key intended exclusively for cleaning and maintenance staff, which allowed access to multiple units within the complex and was seized from EAS after his arrest.

On June 6 and 7, 2025, EAS used the pass to access various bungalows occupied by tourists. In apartment 521, he was caught by a guest tampering with an iPad from a backpack and was forced to flee without the tablet. That same night, he entered bungalow 601 and stole a tourist's wallet containing their identification and bank card. He also entered bungalow 603 and stole an iPhone 14, a charger, and wireless headphones valued at €335, as well as bungalow 560, from which he stole €150 in cash and two watches.

Later, at 2:55 a.m. on June 7, the father and son went to a gas station in the area, where they used the bank card stolen from bungalow 601 to make a payment of €18,35. The financial institution preemptively refunded this amount to the victim.

The prosecution has charged EAS with multiple counts of burglary, fraud, and a minor offense of squatting. The accused has a long criminal record for burglary, with sentences handed down by the Provincial Court of Las Palmas and criminal courts in the capital, which ended in March 2025. He has been held in pretrial detention without bail since June 10, 2025.

For his part, EAP is charged as a co-perpetrator of the crimes of fraud and illegal occupation of property. The prosecution finds no mitigating or aggravating circumstances for either defendant. The Public Prosecutor is requesting a total of six and a half years in prison and a fine of €2.700 for EAS. For his son, EAP, they are requesting six months in prison and a fine of €2.700. Regarding civil liability, the Prosecutor is requesting that the father compensate two of the victims with €341 for the unrecovered property, while both defendants must jointly and severally compensate CaixaBank with €18,35 plus legal interest.
