The members of the Governing Board visited both projects, which represent a joint investment of over 14 million euros in the transformation of the Maspalomas Costa Canaria destination.

The Maspalomas Market is preparing to open in the last quarter of 2026, while the Oasis Palmeral is progressing with the construction of pathways and the central lagoon across its 90.000 square meters, with a view to completing it in the first quarter of 2027.

The Maspalomas Gran Canaria Consortium, an entity shared by the Gran Canaria Island Council and the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, held a day of supervision today of two of the strategic actions for the transformation and modernization of the destination: the landscaping works of El Oasis Palmeral and the remodeling of the building that will house the future Maspalomas Market.

Those participating in the visit included the president of the Consortium and president of the Gran Canaria Island Council, Antonio Morales; the member and Tourism Councillor of the Island Government, Carlos Álamo; the first deputy mayor of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council and Councillor for Urban Planning and Heritage, Alejandro Marichal; and the Councillor for Tourism of the City Council, Yilenia Vega.

The day began at El Oasis Palmeral, where Tragsa is carrying out landscaping work on this 90.000-square-meter space, with an investment of €6.061.443 co-financed by the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council and the Gran Canaria Island Council. The work within the park is expected to be completed in March 2027.

The project includes the restoration of the central lagoon, the planting of native species, and the creation of bio-healthy areas, with the aim of restoring the palm grove's ecological function and consolidating it as a public space that respects the biodiversity of the surroundings and is designed for the enjoyment of both residents and visitors.

Regarding the current state of the works, the three types of trails that will allow visitors to explore the park in an organized way are already 80% complete. Likewise, the structure of the interactive water feature is finished. The planned treatment ensures its operation under conditions equivalent to those of a swimming pool.

Meanwhile, the perimeter fence of the park has already been contracted and is in the installation phase, thus advancing one of the actions necessary to complete the configuration of the new space.

Antonio Morales emphasized that the Maspalomas Gran Canaria Consortium “was conceived as an instrument for the reactivation, modernization, and creation of new spaces for tourism development in one of Gran Canaria's most important destinations and an economic engine for the Canary Islands.” In this regard, he noted that “we need this instrument, promoted by the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council and the Gran Canaria Island Council, to implement and facilitate actions that improve the environment and tourism landscape of Maspalomas.”

The president of the Consortium explained that the day allows for the supervision of "all the most important actions, I believe, in the history of the Consortium, in recent years," and he especially valued the rehabilitation of El Oasis Palmeral, "a long-demanded project that is in the collective feeling of the residents of this municipality, but also of the people who visit us."

The Maspalomas Market faces the final phase before its opening

Subsequently, the members of the Governing Board moved to the building that will house the future Maspalomas Market, a project that has accumulated a total investment of 8,5 million euros since 2022 and whose execution was awarded to the joint venture Taller de Construcción TMR SA - Trop Obras y Proyectos SL

The intervention has involved a complete renovation of both the building and the plot, maintaining part of the original iron structure from the early eighties and combining it with a modern, accessible and efficient design.

The new facility will feature photovoltaic solar panels, parking areas equipped with electric vehicle charging points, and open, well-ventilated spaces. The climate control system will be powered entirely by the more than 100 kW of photovoltaic capacity installed on the roof, allowing the market to operate with virtually zero emissions during its business hours.

To complete the building's commissioning, its connection to the urban sanitation, water supply, and reclaimed water irrigation networks for the development remains to be carried out. This work also affects Avenida Alejandro del Castillo and will resolve an infrastructure issue that has not been addressed for over fifty years. The contracted works will begin this September with the planting of twelve palm trees outside the building's main facade, in the area designated for terraces.

For his part, Alejandro Marichal thanked the Gran Canaria Island Council for “the invaluable collaboration and inter-administrative cooperation,” and highlighted that “two administrations have come together to safeguard the general interest and, in this case, the tourism sector.”

The first deputy mayor recalled that San Bartolomé de Tirajana “is a leading tourist municipality in the Canary Islands” and stated that the actions being carried out are the result of the work done during the current legislature through the Maspalomas Gran Canaria Consortium.

More than 6 million euros to renovate public spaces in Maspalomas

These two projects are part of the investment program being developed by the Maspalomas Gran Canaria Consortium to continue the renovation and modernization of the destination's public spaces. Over €6 million is slated for investment in works and projects this year.

In addition to the projects at El Oasis Palmeral and the Maspalomas Market, there are other projects currently in various stages of implementation, including the remodeling of the area around the Maspalomas Lighthouse, the Costa Canaria seafront promenade, the Meloneras bike lane, the sustainable urban drainage project in the La Charca area, and the renovation of the Santa Águeda promenade.
