Southern Gran Canaria has become the epicenter of British tourism with the celebration of the A Partnership for Growth summit at the Lopesan Villa del Conde Resort & Thalasso. Tour operator Jet2 chose this location in Meloneras to kick off its regional tour of the archipelago, reaffirming a close operational relationship focused on ensuring the profitability, excellence, and sustainability of the destination.
Alongside the sector summit, Regional Minister Jessica León met this Monday in Gran Canaria with the Jet2 management team to discuss key issues for the archipelago, such as the evolution of the summer season, planning for the upcoming winter campaign, and strengthening air connectivity between the islands and the United Kingdom. Also present at this institutional meeting were the Deputy Minister of Tourism, José Manuel Sanabria; the Managing Director of Tourism of the Canary Islands, José Juan Lorenzo; and the Director of Tourism Intelligence Projects, María Guardiet de Vera.
"Jet2's consolidation as the leading tourist provider to Gran Canaria reaffirms the effectiveness of an alliance built on trust and mutual growth. For Lopesan, ensuring stable occupancy rates at our hotels depends on strengthening ties with partners who share our vision of excellence, efficient transportation, and a firm commitment to the destination's sustainability," stated José Alba, CEO of Lopesan Hotels, at the end of the meeting.
The figures presented confirm the strength of this source market. Jet2 consolidates its position as the leading airline for the destination, confirming an offering of over 500.000 seats to the island in 2026 (specifically 500.622 seats), supported by its network of fourteen operating bases. This volume represents a spectacular 135% growth compared to the 206.868 seats recorded in 2017, with a forecast of 341.000 travelers on package holidays for the current year.
On behalf of the host corporation, Alba emphasized that maintaining stable occupancy rates depends on strengthening ties with strategic partners who share a firm vision of transportation efficiency and environmental commitment. The Jet2 delegation, supported logistically by the destination management company MTS Globe in Spain, included senior executives such as the Director of Sustainability and Corporate Affairs, David Neill; the Commercial Director, Adam Mulroy; the Director of Contracting, Andrea McConnell; and the Head of Marketing, Nick Louden. An institutional message was also delivered by the company's CEO, Steve Heapy.
