Although August has ended, the summer atmosphere will continue in Gran Canaria between this Sunday, September 6th, and Sunday, September 13th, with warm temperatures, a predominance of trade winds, and the possible presence of light haze during the first few days.
In the case of Gran Canaria, the weather forecast indicates temperatures reaching and exceeding 35ºC in large areas of the Tejeda basin and the mid-altitude and low-lying areas facing south and west of the island. More locally, and especially in the mid-altitude and summit areas of the southern half, temperatures could reach 39ºC from Monday onwards, and even 40ºC on Tuesday.
The General Directorate of Emergencies has raised the alert level for maximum temperatures on the island of Gran Canaria starting at 10:00 AM tomorrow, Monday, September 7th.
In the south of the island, mostly clear or sunny skies are expected for much of the week. Along the coast, from San Agustín and Playa del Inglés to Maspalomas and Mogán , highs will generally range between 29 and 33 degrees Celsius . In the mid-altitude areas, temperatures will reach between 30 and 35 degrees , while in the mountains, the weather will be more moderate, with temperatures ranging from approximately 24 to 29 degrees.
The trade winds will blow from the north and northeast with moderate intensity, although they may strengthen on the typically more exposed slopes. Light haze may appear, mainly at higher altitudes and during the first half of the week, but no particularly intense episode is expected. AEMET also indicates that the week of September 7-13 will be dry in the south of the islands , with temperatures typical of late summer.
In southeastern Gran Canaria, the wind will be the most prominent weather phenomenon . On Sunday afternoon, AEMET (the Spanish State Meteorological Agency) forecasts strong trade winds along the exposed coast, with north or northeast winds that could reach between 50 and 61 kilometers per hour . The sea will be rougher in this area, while the sheltered southern beaches will experience mostly light to moderate waves.
In the north of Gran Canaria, cooler and more humid conditions are expected, with temperatures generally between 24 and 28 degrees Celsius . There will be more cloud cover, especially during the mornings, and some light, occasional rain is possible.
