The National Police have arrested five people in Operation Brida for the unlawful detention of a man who was beaten, tied up, and threatened with a revolver. Investigators discovered a GPS device placed under the victim's vehicle, which they allegedly used to monitor his movements.
The National Police have arrested five people for the kidnapping of a man in Gran Canaria in an investigation that revealed a particularly significant tracking method: the alleged perpetrators placed a GPS device under the victim's vehicle to monitor his movements. Operation Brida , carried out by the Specialized and Violent Crime Unit (UDEV) of the Canary Islands Police Headquarters , has resulted in one of those arrested being remanded in custody.
Apprehended in Siete Palmas and forced into a van
The incident occurred on March 19, 2025 , when the victim was approached by three individuals on a street in the Siete Palmas neighborhood of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. According to the police investigation, the men were dressed in black and had their faces partially covered. After assaulting the man, they forced him into a van.
Once inside, the alleged kidnappers tied the victim's hands, gagged her with duct tape, and threatened her with a revolver. They then took her to another area of Gran Canaria, where she was held for some time.
During the ordeal, the perpetrators allegedly switched the victim to a different vehicle. They eventually released her in the municipality of Telde after stealing her mobile phone and the keys to a high-end car.

A fake license plate and a GPS hidden under the vehicle
The investigation led to the discovery of the first van allegedly used in the kidnapping, parked in an area of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Officers found various items inside and confirmed that the vehicle was displaying a false license plate belonging to another van of similar characteristics.
But one of the key findings of Operation Brida was found in the victim's own vehicle. Investigators located a GPS device installed underneath it, which had allegedly been placed there to track and monitor his movements.
The investigation carried out by the National Police ultimately led to the identification and arrest of five people allegedly linked to the events. After appearing before the judicial authorities, one of those arrested was ordered to be remanded in custody.
