August brings a respite to the south of Gran Canaria: milder temperatures by the sea

 

Southern Gran Canaria is finding a respite in the middle of August, especially along its coast. The forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) predicts stable conditions in the island's main tourist area, with moderate temperatures along the Atlantic and noticeable differences compared to the mid-altitude zones. The influence of the sea will once again be key in keeping temperatures down in the main tourist areas.

 

In Maspalomas , the specific forecast for the beach predicts a maximum temperature of around 27 degrees Celsius , with clear skies. On Monday, the temperature will remain similar and could even reach a high of around 26 degrees Celsius, making for a much more pleasant experience than is usually associated with the most intense heat waves of the Canary Islands summer.

 

The Mogán coast offers an even milder scenario. In Amadores , temperatures remain high around 25 degrees Celsius , with predominantly clear skies and light winds. The proximity of the ocean thus favors particularly moderate conditions in tourist areas of the municipality such as Arguineguín , Puerto Rico , Amadores , and Puerto de Mogán , although there may be local variations between different areas.

 

The situation changes as you move from the coast towards the midlands of San Bartolomé de Tirajana . The municipal forecast from AEMET, which is based on the capital city located at an altitude of 842 meters, indicates highs close to 30 degrees Celsius . The difference with the forecast values ​​for the coastal area highlights the significant temperature contrast that can occur within the same municipality due to the altitude and the complex topography of southern Gran Canaria.

 

 

 

Towards the southeast of the island, the weather will also be somewhat warmer and the wind will be stronger. In areas like Arinaga , in Agüimes , conditions will remain fully summery, but with greater exposure to the northeasterly flow than along the southwestern coast. This difference again creates distinct weather patterns within just a few kilometers of coastline.

 

The wind and sea conditions are also particularly favorable for the stretch between Maspalomas and Mogán. AEMET's marine forecast predicts variable winds of lower intensity and a sea breeze regime in the south and southwest, mainly in this sector, with slight to moderate seas, while the more exposed areas to the east, southeast, and west may experience stronger winds and rougher seas.

 

The differences between the coast and the midlands will therefore be key in the coming days. In San Bartolomé de Tirajana, a temperature reading for the municipal capital does not necessarily reflect the conditions in Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés, Meloneras, or San Agustín. In these coastal towns, the maritime influence keeps temperatures significantly lower than in inland areas at higher altitudes.

 

Southern Gran Canaria is heading into the second half of August with sunshine, stable weather, and more moderate temperatures along the coast. Maspalomas and Mogán appear to be the areas that will benefit most from this respite from the heat, while the mid-altitude areas and certain parts of the southeast will experience higher temperatures. According to AEMET (the Spanish State Meteorological Agency), this scenario will maintain a summery atmosphere without the most intense heat dominating the island's main tourist area in the south.
