The cooking classroom and the 'Cooking with SPAR Gran Canaria' workshops are activities framed within this collaboration agreement
SPAR Gran Canaria and the Down Syndrome Association of Las Palmas celebrate eight years of partnership facilitating the development of autonomy and social, nutritional, healthy habits and hygiene skills of users, which promotes independent living and inclusion of the group.
Yubi Cisneros, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility and Communication for the supermarket chain, explains that “this agreement consolidates the well-being of society as a whole, and especially that of this group. The inclusive work promoted by the Down Syndrome Association of Las Palmas is fundamental to enriching our community.”
For her part, the president of the Association, Yurena Domínguez , states that the renewal “guarantees the continuity of the different activities launched to strengthen the independence of our users and the support for their families.”
The agreement between both entities allows the launch of different initiatives aimed at promoting the comprehensive well-being and quality of life of the recipients, such as the cooking classroom and the 'Cooking with SPAR Gran Canaria' workshops.
The culinary training courses, which take place weekly from September to June, allow participants to acquire basic cooking techniques and skills for their daily autonomy.
The activity is also carried out on a case-by-case basis in the other projects of the organization, such as the Day Center , the Occupational Center , the 'Growing Together' children's project, and the 'Gang' transition-to-life program. In total, approximately 200 activities have been carried out since its launch in 2023.
The Down Syndrome Association of Las Palmas, which offers ongoing support to people with Down syndrome and their families, provided services to 121 individuals and 338 family members last year. These figures reflect the importance of the partnership between the two organizations in addressing the needs of this community in key areas such as education, employment, awareness, physical and mental health, personal autonomy, and social inclusion, among others.
