The civil servants and other employees of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council will work a maximum of 1.512 hours of effective work annually during 2026. This figure is calculated based on a total of 365 days per year, excluding 52 Saturdays and Sundays, as well as national, regional, island, and local holidays, plus 22 days of annual leave and seven days for personal matters, resulting in a total of 216 working days with an average of seven hours per day.
Working hours benefit from specific compensation when regional, island, or municipal holidays fall on a Saturday or Sunday, generating the right to an additional paid working day off, which can be used until March 31, 2027. This is the case with holidays such as May 30 for Canary Islands Day or July 25 for the local holiday of St. James the Apostle, whose overlap with the weekend activates this work compensation mechanism.
Work-life balance is the central focus of the temporary adjustments to the municipal workforce during the summer months. Between July 1st and September 30th, the standard workday will be reduced by one hour per day, bringing the total to thirty hours per week. During this summer period, the fixed, mandatory attendance period comprises four hours per day, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., while flexible hours are available from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. to ensure a minimum of five hours per day.
June brings additional flexibility measures aimed at caring for children and dependent relatives, allowing employees with direct responsibility for children up to fourteen years old, relatives with a disability of 33% or more, or elderly relatives with dependency or serious illness to reduce their working hours by one hour per day. Employees with children under twelve can benefit from this summer adjustment without having to make up the lost hours, unlike the general work-life balance arrangements for dependents, which require compensating the missed time before the end of the year.
