The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has temporarily reorganized the schedules and routes for waste collection due to limitations on unloading at the GC Sur Ecopark, following the fire that occurred last Friday at the Juan Grande facilities.

Waste management in Gran Canaria has undergone a significant reorganization due to the restoration of operational capacity at the GC South Ecopark , as established by the Gran Canaria Island Council . As a result, waste flows are being temporarily diverted to the GC North Ecopark and other transfer stations located on the island. This exceptional measure may cause longer waiting times , delays in management, and potential disruptions to municipal collection services, directly impacting the time required to complete the routes of the vehicles responsible for the service.
Adaptation of the municipal service to the island reorganization
In response to this situation, the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council and the concessionary company have implemented adjustments to the service's organization to minimize its impact on the municipality. The separate collection of paper and cardboard is being carried out at night, allowing vehicles to travel early in the morning to the designated facilities for unloading and then continue with the collection of light packaging.
Daily monitoring and coordination to maintain controlled selective collection
Currently, selective waste collection remains under control, although longer travel times and waiting times for unloading may cause occasional overflows while this extraordinary situation persists. The Municipal Services Department is monitoring all areas of the municipality daily and coordinating with the contracted company to adjust routes and resources according to any issues detected.
Recommendations to citizens during the reorganization of the island system
The City Council joins the request made by the Gran Canaria Island Council and urges residents to cooperate by avoiding, whenever possible, leaving bags or waste next to full containers. Furthermore, it recommends following all instructions that may be communicated while this exceptional situation persists in the island's waste management system.

The municipal system will continue to adapt as long as restrictions on waste disposal remain in place in southern Gran Canaria. The main objective is to minimize any disruption and maintain the public service in optimal condition for all residents and visitors of the municipality.
