Alejandro Marichal: “The poster will be one of the first images used to promote the 2027 edition and will help to project Maspalomas Costa Canaria as linked to one of our major events.”
Yilenia Vega encourages designers, creators and studios to "creatively interpret a theme as visual as A World of Toys."
'A World of Toys' is beginning to take shape. The 2027 Maspalomas International Carnival, a Festival of Tourist Interest in the Canary Islands, is searching for the image that will announce its next edition, which will be held from March 2nd to 14th. The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, through its Department of Festivals and Events, launched the competition this Monday, August 10th, to choose the poster for an edition whose theme will be the world of toys.
Designers, creators, studios, and companies can submit their proposals until September 7, 2026, at 13:00 p.m. The call for entries is open to adults of any residence or nationality and allows a maximum of two submissions per participant.
The Councillor for Festivals and Events, Yilenia Vega , emphasizes that with the opening of the call for entries, “we are beginning to build the image with which the 2027 Maspalomas International Carnival will be presented to the public.” Vega encourages designers, creators, and studios to participate and “creatively interpret such a visual and versatile theme as 'A World of Toys,' also incorporating those elements that identify Maspalomas Costa Canaria.”
For his part, Alejandro Marichal emphasizes the importance of the Carnival's image as a tool for promoting the destination internationally. “The Maspalomas International Carnival is also a tourist showcase for the municipality. The poster will be one of the first images used to promote the 2027 edition and will help to project Maspalomas Costa Canaria as linked to one of our major events,” he notes.
The proposals must incorporate elements alluding to both the Carnival's theme, 'A World of Toys' , and Maspalomas Costa Canaria. The winning design will become the official image of the event and will be used for promotional and advertising purposes in various print and digital formats.
The poster must include the text “Maspalomas International Carnival of Tourist Interest of the Canary Islands 2027” , along with the theme “A World of Toys” , the dates “March 2-14” , and the reference “Gran Canaria, Spain” . Design techniques are open, and entries must be submitted in editable PDF format, both in 300 ppi print resolution and in a 72 ppi screen-viewable copy. The standard size for poster display is 50 x 70 centimeters.
The rules expressly state that the use of artificial intelligence tools for creating the poster is prohibited . Any design created wholly or partially using artificial intelligence will be disqualified, even if it was previously selected.
Likewise, the designer or studio responsible for the winning proposal must make the necessary design adaptations for the different formats used in the graphic promotion of the Carnival.
Entries must be submitted via WeTransfer to festejosyeventos@maspalomas.com before 1:00 PM on September 7th. The subject line should read “Participation in the poster competition for the Maspalomas International Carnival 2027,” and if submitting two designs, each should be identified as Proposal 13 or Proposal 2. Each entry must be accompanied by the documentation required in the competition rules and a sworn statement attesting to the originality of the submitted proposal(s).
Posters must not contain the name, pseudonym, signature, or any element that could identify the author. Identifying documentation must be submitted separately and include the required personal and contact information, a copy of the author's national identity document, and the title or slogan of the work. The winning entry will receive a prize of €1.000 , subject to applicable tax withholdings. The design will become the property of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, as stipulated in the competition rules.
The winning poster will be chosen by popular vote . All accepted proposals will be available on the municipal website, www.maspalomas.com , where the voting process will take place. The design that receives the most votes will be declared the winner.
The selected poster will thus become the official image of the 2027 Maspalomas International Carnival of Tourist Interest of the Canary Islands , which will be held from March 2 to 14 under the theme of 'A World of Toys'.
