The Housing Department of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council will take a new step in its municipal housing policy with the approval of Addendum II to the cooperation agreement with Social Housing and Infrastructure of the Canary Islands (VISOCAN) , which will allow progress in the acquisition of 26 completed homes in El Castillo del Romeral and will raise the planned investment in the municipal program for the promotion of protected housing to 41,5 million euros .
The proposal will be submitted for consideration at the extraordinary plenary session convened for next Tuesday, August 11 , and includes both the approval of Addendum II and the validation of certain previous administrative actions to reinforce the legal certainty of the procedure.
One of the key milestones of the new addendum is the inclusion in the program of four blocks containing the 26 homes located on Juan de la Cosa Street in El Castillo del Romeral. This operation will allow for the joint acquisition of the 20 homes initially planned, plus the remaining six, which could not be included at first because they were occupied. Now that the occupation has been resolved, the City Council plans to complete the acquisition of the entire property and add it to the public housing stock.
The homes feature two- and three-bedroom layouts, a bathroom and a toilet, as well as a parking space and storage room. One of them is adapted for people with reduced mobility. The estimated purchase price for the entire complex is €4.709.428,15 , below the maximum sale price calculated by the municipal technical office, which was set at €4.732.606,31.
Addendum II stipulates that VISOCAN will undertake the necessary procedures to acquire the properties for the City Council. The homes are currently undergoing renovations, which are scheduled to be completed by the end of this year. Once the work is finished, VISOCAN will hand over the homes to the Housing Department fully completed and ready for occupancy.

We are talking about 26 homes that we will be adding to the public housing stock. This means offering a real alternative to families who currently face enormous difficulties finding affordable housing , Marichal points out.
The councilor emphasized that our goal is to continue increasing the public housing stock and creating alternatives that allow families and young people to stay and live in San Bartolomé de Tirajana and build their lives here . "Each home we add to the public housing stock is another opportunity to address one of the main problems our residents face today ," he added.
The agreement grows to 41,5 million
The second major modification incorporated in Addendum II is the expansion by 6,5 million of the overall budget of the agreement with VISOCAN, which goes from the 35 million initially planned to 41,5 million.
This additional amount is covered by the budget amendment initially approved by the City Council on April 16, 2026. The Councilor for Housing, Lucía Jiménez , explains that the approval allows for the organization and strengthening of the necessary administrative, economic, and control framework to continue implementing the agreement with VISOCAN with all the necessary guarantees . "With this addendum, we are doing two fundamental things: increasing the number of homes to be acquired in El Castillo del Romeral from 20 to 26, and incorporating an additional 6,5 million euros into the agreement, raising its budget to 41,5 million euros ," explains Jiménez.
Jiménez also points out that this addendum “does not just expand the actions and the budget, but also strengthens the monitoring, control and traceability mechanisms of the agreement, establishing greater guarantees to supervise the execution of the actions and the destination of public funds.”
With the plenary approval and subsequent signing of this addendum, the Housing Department achieves one of the priority objectives of its housing policy: to increase the municipal public housing stock and have housing available that can be put at the service of the population.
Meanwhile, the Housing Department is working on drafting the new Ordinance for the Allocation of Public Housing, which will establish the eligibility requirements, the scoring system, and the Municipal Register of Applicants. The Department is maintaining an open public consultation process so that residents, associations, and groups can submit contributions and suggestions until August 11th.
