The Department of Beaches of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council is organizing a new edition of the free Surf Day , aimed at boys and girls between 7 and 13 years old , which will be held next Sunday, July 19 , from 10:00 a.m. to 13:00 p.m., in the emblematic Playa del Inglés.
Following its excellent reception last summer, this initiative returns with the main objective of introducing surfing to young children and promoting one of the most representative sports of the municipality's coastline. The activity will allow many participants to catch their first wave and discover surfing under the guidance of expert instructors, all in a safe environment that combines sport, nature, and fun.
Second edition following the success in 2025
The event is now in its second year, following the success of the 2025 edition, when all 50 available places were filled and dozens of families enjoyed an unforgettable morning at the beach. While the children were the stars of the show, many parents accompanied them from the shore throughout the activity, sharing in a unique experience that transformed the day into a true surf festival. This year, 50 free places will again be offered , so the City Council encourages interested families to register as soon as possible.
Promoting healthy habits and respect for the sea
The Councillor for Beaches, Yilenia Vega , emphasized that “we want our children to discover that our beaches are much more than just a place to swim. They are a space to play sports, share experiences, and learn to respect the sea from a young age . ”
Vega added that “last year we saw that this activity goes far beyond a surf lesson. The children enjoyed it immensely, but so did their families, who shared a very special morning by the sea. That's why we wanted to repeat this initiative and continue bringing the sea closer to new generations . ”
For his part, the First Deputy Mayor, Alejandro Marichal , emphasized that “San Bartolomé de Tirajana has the privilege of having some of the best beaches in Europe, and we want the youngest children to grow up enjoying them, getting to know them, and feeling them as part of their lives. Introducing them to surfing is also teaching them to value, respect, and care for the sea from an early age . ”
Maspalomas, a destination for surfing and water sports
Marichal added that “Maspalomas is an internationally recognized destination for surfing and water sports. We want our children to discover this potential as well, because those who learn to enjoy and respect our beaches from a young age become their best ambassadors in the future . ”
The event is organized in collaboration with Bjorn Dunkerbeck School , Pro Surfing Company , Pure Surf School , Second Reef , South Coast Surfing , Surf Canaries , Surf Maspalomas , Tipsy Hammock , and Water Sports School . These organizations will provide all the necessary equipment and specialized personnel to ensure that participants enjoy surfing with the highest safety standards.
Registration and practical information about the free Surf Day
Places are limited to 50 participants and registration will remain open until July 16. Interested families should request a place by sending an email to concejaliadeplayas@maspalomas.com.
The meeting point will be the Tourism Department Office, located at Calle Las Dunas, 2, Centro Comercial Anexo II, from where the activity will begin.
