Arrested in Maspalomas for disrupting masses for nine months and threatening parishioners

MASPALOMAS24H Saturday, June 27, 2026

The National Police have arrested a man in Maspalomas as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against freedom of conscience, religious sentiments and freedom of worship, following an investigation that clarified a series of incidents that occurred during religious celebrations in a parish in the municipality.

The investigation began following several complaints filed by members of the religious community and church officials , who reported that the same person was repeatedly attending masses with the intention of disrupting them. According to the police investigation , these incidents had been ongoing since September 2025.

The officers confirmed that the suspect frequently entered the parish during liturgical services and caused disturbances by shouting, insulting, and threatening both attendees and church officials. When asked to leave, he reacted aggressively, confronting those present and disrupting the religious services.

The National Police believe that these actions, which continued for approximately nine months, created an atmosphere of fear and unrest among parishioners, affecting the exercise of religious freedom and the normal conduct of worship. After gathering the necessary evidence and identifying the alleged perpetrator, officers set up an operation that led to his location and arrest.

Once the police investigation was completed, the arrested man was placed at the disposal of the judicial authority , which agreed to various precautionary measures, including a restraining order regarding the affected temple while the judicial proceedings continue.
