The roundabouts on Avenida Alejandro del Castillo will be illuminated in green this Sunday, the 28th, to show the municipality's support for families affected by this rare genetic disease and to promote awareness of it among the public.

The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council , through its Department of Health , will join the national awareness campaign for Apert Syndrome this Sunday, June 28th. The campaign is promoted by the National Association of Apert Syndrome and other syndromic craniosynostoses (APERTCRAS) . As a show of support, the roundabouts on Avenida Alejandro del Castillo will be illuminated in green , a symbol of hope for people living with this rare disease.

Apert syndrome is a rare, inherited genetic disorder affecting approximately one in every 65.000 to 160.000 newborns. It is characterized by the premature closure of the skull sutures, leading to various craniofacial malformations and potentially associated with vision, hearing, and breathing problems, palate abnormalities, and recurrent ear infections. It also commonly causes fusion of the fingers and toes, often requiring numerous surgical interventions from early childhood.

With this initiative, the Department of Health aims to raise awareness of Apert Syndrome and show its support for affected families. Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez emphasizes that the green lighting of the roundabouts symbolizes "hope, life, and the future," as well as promoting values of inclusion and respect. Councilwoman Araceli Armas notes that those living with this rare disease face numerous interventions and constant medical follow-up from childhood, and therefore believes that actions like this help to raise awareness in society and combat the invisibility experienced by many families.
