A 55-year-old man had to be airlifted to the University Hospital of Gran Canaria after his car ran off the road on Sunday in the municipality of Mogán. The driver was trapped in the vehicle and was rescued by firefighters.
The accident occurred at 16:26 p.m. at the roundabout connecting the GC-1 highway with the tourist area of Taurito . The alert reached the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 112 via the eCall system installed in the damaged vehicle, which automatically activated the emergency call.
The operation mobilized personnel from the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium , the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) , Civil Protection , and the Civil Guard . Firefighters secured the damaged car and carried out the necessary maneuvers to extract its sole occupant.
Paramedics treated the injured man at the scene of the accident and, after stabilizing him, airlifted him by helicopter to the University Hospital of Gran Canaria . The 55-year-old man sustained serious injuries. The Civil Guard is investigating the circumstances of the accident.
