The Port of Castillo del Romeral will host an event next Friday, June 19th, at 11:30 a.m., aimed especially at school children to discover firsthand how a Canarian eco-port works.
The program includes guided tours, demonstrations, and the performance of "Salt Stories," a theatrical piece to promote values such as sustainability, memory, and respect for the sea.
Puertos Canarios will celebrate this Friday, June 19 , at the Port of Castillo del Romeral , in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana , a new Open Ports Day , an initiative designed to bring the regional port infrastructures closer to the public and, on this occasion, also to school children , from a close, informative and participatory perspective.

The activity will take place under the slogan "Get to know your Canary Islands eco-port" and will allow visitors to tour the facilities through guided visits , learn in a practical way how innovation and sustainability are integrated into port management and discover advances linked to digitalization , energy efficiency , clean energy and the improvement of services, as well as enjoy the play "Salt Stories" , a small format show aimed at all audiences.
The managing director of Puertos Canarios, José Gilberto Moreno , emphasized that this initiative aims to open the ports to the public and share, in a simple and accessible way, all the work being done to make these infrastructures more sustainable, efficient, and beneficial to their surroundings. “We want those who participate in Castillo del Romeral to understand that a port is not just a transit point, but a living space, connected to its municipality and to the future of the Canary Islands ,” he stated.
Moreno also highlighted that the Smart Eco-Ports project allows progress in digitalization, clean energy, and continuous improvement, but also in a new relationship with society. “These workshops help us explain, with real-world examples and activities designed for different audiences, how we are working to have more sustainable ports, better connected and more engaged with the community ,” he added.
The event is organized in collaboration with the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Council.
With this event at Castillo del Romeral, Puertos Canarios continues to strengthen a line of work that combines dissemination, culture and environmental awareness, inviting citizens to learn firsthand how the regional ports are evolving within the Smart Ecoports model.
